Blacksmithing Courses

To become a proficient blacksmith takes a great deal of time and effort on behalf of the pupil. Not only to learn the basics, but also to develop the skill necessary to use tools correctly and with a minimum of effort.

Our courses are designed to provide you with the basic knowledge sufficient to enable you to operate a small forge and to give you a taster of what it is like to be a blacksmith. We provide continuation training if you wish to progress, covering more advanced aspects of the blacksmiths art.

Our basic blacksmithing course consists of five hours intensive training covering such topics as:

  • Fire management
  • Hand eye coordination
  • Point making
  • Basic metallurgy
  • Tool making using spring steel
  • Hardening and tempering

The more adept should be able to produce a rams head poker by the end of the course.
